Artists Develop Art Making Skills: I used a new form of media for my work. I have never worked with dominoes before. I find it challenging to work with them, but I am set in my idea and will not give up. Also for the first time, I am using spray paint. I am not using it in a traditional sense though. I am using them to paint my dominoes in a gradient starting with black, going to blue, and ending with white.

Artists Communicate Through Their Work: The idea for my project is for the dominoes to spell out All Fall Down with the possibility for them to actually fall down. I got the idea for the phrase from a song by One Republic that's about knowing someone is there for you when everything goes bad, or when it "all falls down" around you. The song really meant something to me because I have a big family that is very close and we're all there for one another when the going gets tough. This message speaks to me more than the other work I've done because this one of the few serious works I have done. 

Artists Take Risks: This project will only work with patients and hard work. Every time the dominoes fall I have to set them back up again. I didn't know when I came up with the idea that dominoes would be so hard to find but I had to go to multiple stores to find them and they were kind of expensive. I am setting up my project on some white poster board so that the dark colors of the blue gradient will be seen. This is a project that must be looked at from above to get the full effect. I have started marking where I put the dominoes in order to more quickly and efficiently set them back up when they fall.

1. Artist create original art
I wanted to use characters that are very familiar to everyone, but put my own spin on it. I used pictures of the Mickey Mouse gang and added the zombie features and scratches to it.

4. Artist takes risks
I just kind of wung it with the zombie features from movies and TV shows I've seen. I risked changing a well known character. My painting this time is a lot less structural than others I have done, less clean lines and taping off edges.
2. Artist develop art making skills
I worked more with the projector to get my image scaled right onto the canvas. I had to come up with new ways to mix colors to create dull, dirty colors that are associated with zombie apocalypses. I had to make a lot of small details and be really exact in my painting.

3. Artists communicate through their work

I chose to make the Mickey characters kind of creepy and zombie like because my family has always liked zombie movies and we used to watch my dad play the Resident Evil video games when we were little. I also liked the layout of the characters because it looks like a family portrait which also went along with the idea that my family all share an interest in the living dead. This work is meant to be purely for entertainment. I want to give this painting to my family and have them all laugh and remember how much fun we have when we have zombie marathons.

5. Artists collaborate

Our whole table and other classmates came up with ideas for this project and we shared them with each other. We kind of gave each other ideas on what appropriation means to each pf us whether it was a play on words or taking an already existing piece of work and changing it to something new. When I found myself thinking more about using the Mickey Mouse characters I asked the girls at my table what they thought of my idea and what I could do to certain characters to "zombify" them. 

6. Artist solve problems

I had a million other ideas before I chose this one, it was difficult to try and pick a subject just because there were so many to choose from. I'm not very good at moving a a drawing from paper to scale on canvas, so I used the projector to make sure my drawing stay intact. I responded to challenges with enthusiasm, knowing that if I overcame them I would become a better artist. Pretty much the entire project was unplanned. I was just looking through Google for ideas and happened upon a zombie picture of Mickey Mouse.

The idea was to make a sect or drawing of something you could do in the real world, whether it be a sculpture or a painting on a wall. I chose to make it look like someone had colored a brick wall in rainbow chalk and spell out PRIDE with both positive and negative words used in the gay community. Some other ideas we had were a aerosol can spraying out the word hairspray, a radio playing lyrics from its speakers, ribbon tied in the bars of the Eiffel Tower to spell Paris, and balloons spelling out words as they float away.

First mini project in art 3, I like the idea, but I could have put more effort into it. Some other ideas we had for this project were icebreaker, room of strangers, a duel, and a magic (illusion) show.

Book Carving

Out of the themes we were given I chose fears and phobias. One of my biggest fears is to be stuck in a mental institution. There is this TV show where Alice was in an asylum, I got my subject from that. Thrown in a cell because of the only people she had trusted, now feeling betrayed because they allowed her to be taken away. After several years Alice loses her hope of rescue, she begins to doubt her friends' existence in the first place. She opens up to doctors and begins telling her tales of adventure, danger, and love. For the design of the project it was very import to plan before starting to make sure the idea will fit on the page. You also have to plan how deep you want it to go. while the book is open, with each page the pages pull farther from the others so my work kind of moved farther to one side. i shaved down the sides of the lower levels to make it even. I painted it with acrylics watered down so that you can still see the words from the book.
